Michelle is an award-winning singer and a professional arts administrator. She has sung with more than dozen choral groups and has been involved in several productions as a soloist. She graduated from UBC with a Bachelor of Arts in Music. She holds an ARCT from the Royal Conservatory in voice (First Class Honours with Distinction), studying with Marisa Gaetanne, and is the soprano section leader at St. James Anglican Church. Michelle has over six years business experience working for entrepreneurs, independent companies, and arts groups in Vancouver. Most recently, Michelle managed the acclaimed Phoenix Chamber Choir and was the Finance and Systems Administrator for the Vancouver Bach Family of Choirs, which includes 450 singing members and eight ensembles. Michelle is currently the General Manager of the Vancouver Cantata Singers. In 2017, she launched a new venue – based music series in Vancouver, the St. James’ Music Series. This series promotes culture in the city by presenting concerts for Vancouverites and visitors, and by providing a performance venue for musicians.
Michelle’s work increases operational, financial and developmental capacity through good management systems. She has won new funding for organizations and built solid relationships with internal and external stakeholders. She has worked copyright and legal issues in the classical music industry and has organized a wide variety events at venues in the Lower Mainland region. She creates connections between people in the choral and larger arts community and brings clarity to alignment between mission/vision and operations. Michelle grew up on a fruit orchard in the Okanagan Valley and isn’t afraid of hard work.
